Szanto, Jenö

Jenö Szanto

Unfortunately I could not find much biographical information about Jenö Szanto which seems strange because the facts that I found identify him as an excellent and valued musician. So if you know more about him, please let me know. And here is what I found out.

Jenö Szanto was born in 1907. He studied violin under Jenö Hubay. In 1925 Jenö Szanto was violin soloist with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under Rudolf Nilius performing the Glasunow concerto. In 1939 he composed the work "Chant du soir" for theremin and piano. He was also a member of the Ferenc Liszt circle in Baja and teacher at the corresponding music school. Between 1939 and 1977 Jenö Szanto was a member of the first violins of the renowned Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra. He died in 1981.

Les fleurs Magnolia au clair de Lune

In my possession is the autograph manuscript of the composition "Les fleurs Magnolia au clair de Lune, for cello and piano" by Jenö Szanto. There is no indication when the work was composed. But the manuscript comes from the estate of renowned Hungarian cellist Vera Denes (1915-1970) and bears an inscription to her by the composer. So it seems likely that the work was composed in the 1940s or 50s. I have no information if the work was ever performed.
