Louis Casemajor

Louis Casemajor was born around 1850. There is no information about his musical education, but from 1885 at the latest he was choir master of the church Saint-Louis-en-Ile in Paris. In this position he was a vivid part of the concert scene with regular performances of sacred music (masses, cantatas, etc) in his church. But he also composed own (profane) music or set poems and lyrics of other artists to music. This included mainly chansons and works that were performed in the Parisian cabarets and revues.
Louis Casemajor died on 5 October 1921 in Paris (France).

Le roi pour rire

In my possession is the autograph piano reduction of the operetta bouffa "Le roi pour rire" by Louis Casemajor. The libretto was written by Eugene Lemercier. In addition to the piano score I also own the autograph libretto by Lemercier as well as handwritten parts for the singing/reciting roles. There is no information in the manuscripts when the work was composed and I also could not find references about the work in old newspapers. Regarding the two authors involved in the creation of this work and their life dates, it is very likely that the operetta was composed between 1900 and 1910.
