Adolf Sigmundt

Adolf Sigmundt was born on 26. September 1845 in Ulm (Germany). He took his first vocal studies with Jakob Rauscher in Stuttgart and later with Johannes Ress in Berlin and his sister Louise Ress in Vienna. In 1874 he became professor at the Conservatory of Geneva.

In 1879 he left Geneva and started a career as an opera singer. At first he had a position at the Leipzig Opernhaus and premiered as the "Faust" in Gounod's opera. Later he sang at the Stadttheater in Bremen and Würzburg. In 1884 he finally moved to the Hoftheater Coburg.

Adolf Sigmundt was a renowned heroic tenor and well respected in roles like Tannhäuser, Lohengrin, Manrico in "Troubadour" or the Raoul in the "Hugenotten" bei Meyerbeer.

In 1892 he quit his opera career, moved to Stuttgart and worked as a voice teacher. In his late years he also began to compose and created mainly songs. Some of his compositions were published by "Auer" in 1914 and "Sulze & Galler (Heinz Mueller)" in 1918.

In April 1918 Adolf Sigmundt died in Stuttgart (Germany).
