Georges Charton
Georges Charton was born on 24 August 1862 in Paris (France). I found no information about his education but since the early 1890s he is a regular name in Parisian newspapers. Georges Charton made his mark as a composer of chansons, operettas and operas bouffes which were performed at all notable cabarets. From 1896 to 1900 he was the director of the Cabaret de la Roulotte. In 1908 the important music journal "Paris qui chante" dedicated a complete issue to Georges Charton and his songs. It seems Georges Charton was also a veritable pianist, because he went on a two year world tour as piano accompanist with the renowned French chanson singer Eugenie Buffet between 1925 and 1927.
Georges Charton died on 13 February 1929 in Nice (France).
Une Idylle a Naples ou La Fornarinette
In my possession is the handwritten piano reduction of the operetta "Une idylle a Naples ou La Fornarinette" by Georges Charton. The work was written on a libretto by Eugene Lemercier. I found no information about a performance but the work is mentioned in a newspaper article in 1922 regarding the work catalogue of Eugene Lemercier. In addition to the piano reduction I also own an autograph manuscript of the libretto. Attached to the documents were two letters by the wife of Georges Charton from 1937 in which she negatively answered the request for the "partition" (so maybe the full score) because she could not find it.
