Marcel Delannoy

Marcel Delannoy was born on 9 July 1898 in La Ferte-Alais (France). He first studied painting and architecture and entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, but drafted for military service during World War I. After the end of the war Marcel Delannoy did not return to his initial studies but switched to music. But he did not enroll at a conservatory and was mainly self-taught.
Marcel Delannoy got his breakthrough as a composer in 1927 with his opera "Le Poirier de misere" and made his name as a opera composer with Philippine (1928), Le fou de la dame (1930), Ginevra (1938) or Puck (1949). But he also composed orchestral music like 2 symphonies, a piano concerto, a Serenade concertante for violin and orchestra, several orchestral suites (L'Homme danse, Figures sonores), ballets, chamber music like a string quartet, piano works as well as film music.
Beside his work as a composer Marcel Delannoy was also a critic and wrote reviews for Les Nouveaux Temps.
Marcel Delannoy died on 14 September 1962 in Nantes (France).

In my possession are two autograph manuscripts of Marcel Delannoy. Both are short piano pieces and previously unpublished: "Musique pour moi" composed in June 1945 and "Scherzetto" composed in October 1961. Both manuscripts are dedicated to composer and pianist Marie-Rose Clouzot.
