Petitjean, Maurice

Maurice Petitjean

Maurice Petitjean was a French composer. It is known that he toured with Gabriel Montoya through different cabarets. For example in 1901 both performed at the Chat Noir in Paris. Maurice Petitjean left a huge work catalogue of songs and chansons of which many were published. Curiously there is little more known about him and his life. Several sources give 1922 as the year of his passing.

In my possession are three autograph manuscripts by Maurice Petitjean. All three works are songs and all three set poems by Gabriel Montoya to music. The songs are: "Le choix de Suzon", "Le madaillon" and "Chanson de printemps". The song "Le choix de Suzon" was published by Societe d'Editions in 1913. The two other works seem to be unpublished so far.
