Karl Wimmer

Karl Wimmer was born on 22 October 1889 in Landshut (Germany). After his own school years he began his education as a school teacher. That included also musical studies under Anton Schwarz. Since 1908 Karl Wimmer worked as a teacher in different schools in Lower Bavaria and finally settled in Oberalteich. There he fulfilled his position as teacher for 30 years till his retirement.

After his musical studies in his education Karl Wimmer began to compose. The complete work catalogue seems to be unknown, but there are the mass "Albertusmesser", an organ concerto and several funeral marches.

After his professional life Karl Wimmer moved to Straubing (Germany) where he deceased on 25 April 1971.

In my possession is the autograph music manuscript of the "Variationen und Fuge über ein Thema von Kuhlau, für Streichorchester in zwei Chören" by Karl Wimmer. The work was composed in 1932/33 and is scored for a string orchestra in two groups - a string quintet section con sordino, the other quintet section senza sordino.
