Richard Würz

Richard Würz was born on 15 February 1885 in Munich (Germany). From 1902 to 1906 he studied piano and composition privately with Max Reger. After his studies he made his living as a music critic for the "Münchner Neueste Nachrichten" and worked there from 1907 till 1945 when the newspaper ceased publication. Richard Würz also lectured music theory at the Liebling conservatory from 1910 to 1916 and at the Trapp conservatory from 1941 to 1944.

Richard Würz died on 2 February 1965 in Munich (Germany).

The work catalogue of Richard Würz is small and contains mainly songs. Also published are his "Turmmusiken" for small brass ensembles.

3 ernste Gesänge op.3

In my possession is the autograph manuscript of the "3 ernste Gesänge op.3" for voice and piano by Richard Würz. The work sets two poems by Friedrich Hölderlin (Ehmals und Jetzt, Der gute Glaube) and a poem by Karl Weitbrecht (Dämmerung) to music. The songs remained unpublished and are presented here for the first time.
