Harrend Vlag was born 1913 in Gouda (Netherlands). He studied clarinet at the Conservatory in Den Haag and later became solo clarinetist at the Arnhemsche Orkest Vereeniging and later bass clarinetist at the Residentie Orkest in Den Haag. He was also the founder of the "Bilthovense Muziekweek" in 1947 together with Jaap Geraedts, Jurriaan Andriessen, Henk Stam, Sas Bunge and Thierry van Driest. It is unknown when Harrend Vlag passed away.
Harrend Vlag also composed music and is famous for his "Bulgarian" compositions. His "Bulgaarsche Suite" was composed in 1950 and was co-awarded the first prize of the new music festival "Dag in de Branding" in 1950 (together with Ton de Leeuw's "Sonatine for piano"). The work was later published by Donemus.
In my possession is the autograph manuscript of this "Bulgaarsche Suite for violin and viola". Actually the score is withdrawn from publication by Donemus, so if you need the score for studies or a performance, please contact me - I have typeset the manuscript.
